Project Process

Prototyping
Our original idea was to have a fire extinguisher part of our product but we found that it is most efficient and universal if we made our product an attachment that would adjust to the size of our own fire extinguisher that you have at home.
Another original idea that we had was to make our sensor temperature sensitive but we realized that it isn't the most effective way of scanning the room because then small heat things can make the sensor go off. However, since we have an infrared sensor our product is more precise and only goes off when there actually is a fire.
The original idea that the 3D modeling team had was to create a straight hose that would expel the extinguishing solution but they changed it to a cone shape to increase the area that was covered through the release.

Pivots
The Infrared sensor team worked to augment their code in order develop an appropriate temperature threshold for the detection of the fire. The temperature threshold works to ensure that the infrared system does not trigger the fire extinguisher when there is not fire or risk of fire by setting the temperature that triggers the release mechanism to one most pertinent to the temperature range of a fire.
The release mechanism team was prompted to change their code in order to ensure that their battery and string system reverses appropriately after triggering the release of the fire extinguisher liquid.
The 3D modeling team made adjustments to the width and length of the cone shaped device in order to optimize how much area is covered by fire extinguisher liquid. The purpose of the cone is to ensure that the fire extinguisher liquid is release throughout a wider area of the room so that every flame of the fire is extinguished.

Project Value
As a team, every individual, did research on different IR sensors and this was done so we as a team can understand the components and how an IR sensor works, this helped further our knowledge and allowed us to proceed in choosing a specific IR sensor instead of the temperature sensor. After choosing an IR sensor we found the different types and compared prices, the work for that is attached below in a google sheet.
