Project Idea

Definition of the Problem
The problem that our team aims to resolve is that of unattended housefires. Our target is residential and property, particularly cooking fires which are attributed to nearly 169,000 fires in the US per year with an estimated $1.2 billion in property damage. When a fire occurs in the absence of a home/property owner or even a tenant, our Fire Autonomous Release Mechanism or FARM is set to protect homes and residences from property damage by using an infrared sensor to detect a fire and set off a release of the fire extinguisher liquid from a fire extinguisher.

Solution
Our device is meant to combat residential and property fires through the use of an infrared sensor detection system that sets off the fire extinguisher it is attached to.
The solution was developed with the intention of protecting homes and property from unwarranted damage when they are vacant or in the case that home or property owners are unavailable or unable to react to the fire.

Project Background
The project idea was pitched in an effort to address the property damage caused by fires, particularly when homeowners and occupants are not in their residence. The estimated cost of property damage as a result of house fires is $12 billion, and our innovation aims to ensure that this sum is reduced.
