Project Process

I definitely learned a lot in the process of this project. Not only about the topic I chose, but also about myself. The biggest thing to focus on in order to make this project a success was time management. Balancing four AP classes, college applications, this project, and other responsibilities wasn't easy, but it also wasn't impossible. By creating a schedule for myself and following through with it, I was able to follow an agenda that helped me to complete my project efficiently.

Personal Growth

I think a big challenge for me was the social aspect of this project. I had no choice but to reach out to people to get information, present in front of students, and meet with teachers who I felt could help me progress the project further. My anxiety to reach out to others has hindered me from success before, but I learned to somewhat deal with it and go out of my way to get what I needed. I still struggle sometimes to interact with others without getting anxious or overly nervous, but this project taught me that it's okay and that people are there to answer questions if I have them. A positive thing I encountered in this process was my realization that I had found something I was really passionate about. I loved reading about this topic and honestly was never bored with the information I found. I still try to learn about our environment and the climate as much as I can, even if I don't have to for a project or an assignment. I'll never have all the facts, but I can learn what I can and share it with others.

Challenge

Learning Stretch

Self-direction was the key to success when it came to this project. I learned that I am the only person who can push myself to complete the tasks I needed to. Without initiative, it would have been difficult to create a project that I was sincerely proud of.
A big problem I had to deal with was being turned down, by multiple people. My original vision to bring guests into the school and have them expose the students to work related to environmental sustainability was brought down multiple times. Due to this, I learned to not rely on others for my success. I took matters into my own hands and became one of the guests I wished to have at the school, to the best of my ability.
