The Problem
There is a problem with the pre-existing approaches to sharing poetry. In terms of publication, organizations that publish work are not developed with new writers in mind, but experienced writers that are familiar with cover letters and pre-conditioned expectations.
Additionally, writers who perform their work, such as spoken word or slam is poets, have a difficult time finding places and organizations that encourage physical gatherings to share work, especially in suburban areas.
The Solution
The solution is a literary publication that provides resources in both the physical world and the publishing world. This organization would focus the n cultivating spaces for poets to share their work.
Your Small Moments would produce an online, subscription-based monthly anthology of submitted work revolving around proposed themes. The submission process will be developed with new writers in mind, created with the intent of encouraging novice poets to share their work in an undaunted manner.
Additionally, in regards to the oral, in-person aspect of the organization, local slam poetry gatherings will be held to foster a physical environment for writers to share their work. These gatherings consist of a competition in which participants are given scores for their performances of their writing based on a variety of criteria provided to judges.
This kind of event is more often found in cities and thus limits its influence to the online world, as their existence is often held in concentrated areas amongst other organizations, competing for participants. By developing local gatherings, especially in more suburban areas, there is a new level of inclusive which encourages more poets outside of cities to gather with peers in their community to share and reflect upon spoken-word and slam poetry.
