Project Ideation

Friday, April 09, 2021

We started by breaking into groups and coming up with our project ideas. We had a range of different project ideas from, air purifiers to litter boxes. Each group worked hard on making a presentation to present their idea to the class. They gave examples of possible mentors, project design, and everything else needed for the project. Once we got towards the end of our group ideation process, we had to vote based on the problem, solution, body of research, experiment design, and mentor. In the end, we all agreed on using the Graphene cutting board project, which we modified into a Teflon cutting board due to a lack of information on safety and overall knowledge of Graphene.

The picture on the left shows the results for when we voted for our ideas based on the five different aspects; the problem, solution, available research, experiment, and mentor relations.

Why use Teflon as the material instead of other materials?

Monday, May 10, 2021

Teflon is better than other types of cutting boards because of its Superhydrophic surface. The leading brands mainly use maple wood because it's durable against a knife. We chose to use Teflon because it is more resistant to water, making it easier to clean than other cutting boards like maple wood. Teflon cutting boards will also be able to be cleaned with less or maybe even no chemicals instead of the leading brand cutting boards which need in-depth cleaning. Teflon's price varies depending on how much will be used but seems to be possibly less expensive than other materials of cutting boards.

Reimagine cutting boards

Tuesday, May 11, 2021

The first cutting board was invented in 1887. It was a sycamore cutting board used to chop food just like today. Soon after, the plastic cutting board was invented. After that, cutting board technology has been the same. This is why this year, we decided that creating a Teflon cutting board would make your life so much easier and break boundaries more than ever before. Our Teflon cutting board sanitizes and traps any bacteria or viruses making cleaning your cutting board so much easier. All you need to do to clean your cutting board is simply wipe it with a warm cloth. None of your food will get stuck in any cracks like some cutting boards cause.
