Artifact: Find My Passions - Capstone

All my life being born and raised in New Haven, I have faced a lot of challenges, and specifically in my education. I believe my time in school and influences has shaped me into the driven individual I am today. In 2017 my mother had been diagnosed with the worst kind of lupus. After picking me up from school one day in 8th grade, my mom received a phone call that left her crying somberly. It took her a few moments to collect herself, after which she told me, “I have lupus.” At the time, I didn't even know what that was, but in a matter of weeks, I witnessed the devastating toll it took on my mom’s life. The flares, arthritis, and pains in her legs and feet left her bedridden for three months. I sprang into action for my mom, and gave her whatever assistance I could, which ranged from preparing her meals to massaging her swollen calf and feet. Despite my mothers struggles and conditions, she still worked full time in the first stages of lupus. My mothers battle inspired me to do better in school, she always had mentioned to me about how I was a minority and how the world would treat me differently. It was from this point that I saw what the world was like and that things are earned and not given. I believe my time in school and my influences has shaped me into the driven individual I am today. I use this instance in the time of my life to analyze myself and recognize key aspects and feelings I may have had that are relevant to this topic. I also see this instance in time was key for me to learn about topics later in life like Impostor Syndrome, and since ethnic minorities are especially vulnerable to this Syndrome, I believe it's especially important for me to address it since it also effects me.

Artifact: Failure Resume

In my life I've always faced failures ranging from academics, jobs, school, sports and more. But in the end failure is where I learn the most and can reflect. I see failure as an opportunity to redirect and a breather, no matter where and how failure will always be to me the point where I just freeze and think of my next move. Failure sharpens my understanding and wisdom so that I don't make the same mistakes. In my resume, I give real life experiences where I've experienced failure and how I moved forward or changed. Im grateful for the way I handle my failures and learned how to compose myself in times of sadness and stress. Please reference my resume for more.
