Connections

Wednesday, January 15, 2020

The use of 3D production skills from the Academy's 3DMA class contributes a large role to the game building process. I plan to build my game demo in the Unity game engine; because of this, having knowledge of 3D modeling and animation proves helpful and correctly organizing and creating the different subjects so that they properly make use of the psychological and scientific techniques I want to be implemented. A variety of critical skills also play a part in the process because the game design and the Unity game engine are areas I have never explored. A mix of Problem Solving, creativity and innovation, and information literacy will play dominating roles as I work to create the game I envision without any prior experience in game design and do so using information gathered from research groups and professionals in the fields of psychology. With the testing aspect, I plan to use collaboration skills to better execute the experiment and receive feedback for improvement. Communication and responsible citizenship will also play a key role because of my mentor connection and the use of new technology to solve a psychological problem.

Learning Stretch

Wednesday, January 15, 2020

As a teen in the 21st century, I have a love for videogames of all kinds, and after playing videogames for quite a few years now, know how complex their interfaces, game mechanics and designs can be. I am now at the stage of my product where I am actually producing and creating the VR game, and having familiarly with the make of a variety of different games makes me a bit uncomfortable. I feel that my greatest learning stretch will come now, when I have to create a video game as opposed to play one, and do so before the end of May.

Personal Growth

Wednesday, April 08, 2020

With the recent COVID-19 Pandemic, we are most likely looking towards a virtual expo and a variety of project aspects now need to be completed with social distancing in mind. Months ago I couldn't even imagine this situation as a possibility but here we are. Because of this, I've been learning how to adapt and adjust when faced with unexpected circumstances. The adjustments have been confusing and difficult to manage but I have the utmost confidence that the recent circumstances will not change the outcome of my project and the image Gridlocked will convey. I am ready to make adjustments, as difficult as they may be and time-consuming they could be to ensure this vision comes to truth

Connections to Past Academy Experiences

Wednesday, April 08, 2020

Throughout the academy, we have had a large focus on the use of 21st-century technology and skills, and because of this, I feel prepared for this upcoming EXPO both because of my project being a virtual video game you are meant to play home and because the EXPO now is likely to be conducted virtually. Though I have only really attended one EXPO in my time in the Academy, I am ready to bring it my all to capstone and finish strong in a new environment!

Community Outreach

Wednesday, January 15, 2020

Gridlocked aims to be the best it can be and as a result, reached out to a variety of people in different fields for feedback that could make the VR Game "game-changing". One notable outreach can be found with Nelson Felciano at MIT. With experience with videogames and their relation to social impacts/relations, he made sure to highlight several factors that were overlooked when ideating the game mechanics. Some of the factors include the need to understand why individuals are fearful of their phobias in the first place and the possibility that the situation in which they are afraid of their phobias may hinder the fact of other aspects such as being afraid of spiders when you're in the dark. This feedback was heavily considered and as a result, added to the game's mechanics in the shape of a questionnaire to better learn about the player and their phobia. The results of this questionnaire would create and cater to a map that the player would receive the most effective treatment from (maps would differ in size, lightness, ambiance, etc.)
