The Problem
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately 1 out of every 10 Americans experience phobias, which induce high levels of unreasonable stress, intense panic, or excessive anxiety. As of now, individuals are given the option of dealing with the phobia on their own or spending unreasonable amounts of money on therapists and other professionals.
The Solution
Fusing 21st-century technology with the mission of removing the stigma of phobia, my idea is brought to life. Misfortune will break the boundaries of traditional desensitization methods through the use of VR technology. The intention of this game is for it to become a fad for anyone to take part in. Friends can gather and play this game together, providing a fun gaming experience while simultaneously, serving as a learning experience to aid in the desensitization of different phobias in the individual player.
The game’s method towards fighting phobias will stem from proven research in productive desensitization and psychological methods, along with scientific facts about the phobias that can serve to teach those playing the game. Building of the game will make use of my 3D modeling and animation skills, with proper execution through the Unity Game Engine. Testing would involve a sample of individuals playing the game and documentation of the change in reaction to insects prior to, and after exposure to the desensitization.
