Viability:

Our project is viable due to the resources that we have at our disposal. We intend to research multiple types of seaweed to see which is the most effective. This will be determined by a few variables: the growth rate of the seaweed, the amount of CO2 which is removed from the atmosphere, and finally the environment which the species can grow in. We intend to do this within the confines of our very own classroom. After we have nominated an effective candidate, we will develop a system to cultivate the seaweed to eliminate carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and the oceans. Initially, we be made as a model to make the project viable but long term larger constructs will be built.

Creativity and Innovation

Thursday, January 23, 2020

Our project is a creative and innovative product because it uses the untouched potential that seaweed has to offer. We are using the process that seaweed takes in carbon dioxide and turns it into oxygen. We want to use this process on a much greater scale. By using seaweed we can lower the acidity of the ocean that is already so high we would be able to allow more plant growth which would eventually put the ocean at a point of self-sustainment from the amount of carbon dioxide in the water.

Two crosscutting concepts that identified are:

1. "Cause and Effect"

2. "Scale, Proportion, and Quantity"

Theme

Originally, seaweed absorb carbon dioxide in the ocean are a normal ecological circumstance. However, we have decided to strengthen the advantage of seaweed. We want to find a way to make the seaweeds grow more and absorb carbon dioxide more efficiently than the normal seaweeds. We attempt to break the boundaries of ecological norms and tried to use this advantage to help human beings to solve one of the most serious questions in 21th century — global warming.
