Connections

Wednesday, January 15, 2020

I’ve always been a little nervous about taking on this project because I have less academy experiences to connect the process too. However the farther we go along, I have found myself looking into the past to push through the current. When I was seven, my dad brought me to work, he asked if I could create a website for a new company. I wasn’t aware of HTML or much of the context that goes into a business page. Though I didn’t know how to create a website, I quickly assured my dad I could. This prompted a risky habit that I have continued throughout my life. I always face a task head-on; I didn’t know at the time but I knew I could learn. At times during this year, when I find myself not remembering old software or getting really behind on work and not organizing, I look to the past to remember I can always learn to move forward. These first first tasks under my father sparked a true passion of mine: composition. This year I have channeled this same eagerness and molded my spirited motivation to create a uniform image for Forward Films. My freshman year I was first exposed to the academy at my school and I was in awe of the ideation and business connection offered in the junior 3D modeling and animation class I accidentally was put in. I have used this experience at the expo and the process in preparation for our pitch to prepare for my own booth. In a similar way, my participation in the skills 21 red carpet event gave me insight on the rigor and inspiration for my project. Lastly my fellow Capstone kids and relationships to people in the academy have inspired me and gave me a way to connect my own high school experiences to the outstanding things they have accomplished. Learning about the past projects Pomperaug has done, supporting friends at the expo, and making friends with the class has served as an example to me so I have been able to push through the struggles.

Learning Stretch

Wednesday, January 15, 2020

This project has definitely kept me on my toes. Taking on a new class and embarking on this journey, Forward Films has certainly had a learning stretch. Pushing through, I’m grateful for every step on this adventure. Before starting I lacked confidence in my potential and ideation, however the skills and experiences that have come from taking on Capstone have influenced my knowledge, time management, and habits.
I think the biggest learning stretch I struggled with this year is skills in risk-taking. I am more of a person who likes to stick at what I am good at. I really enjoy participating in robotics and taking the CAD classes at my school but I often find myself volunteering for the jobs to make cute presentations or making a video. Though I enjoy those projects as well, it was a stretch to combine all the aspects of my project, even tasks I might struggle with. It was a rocky road to reach the point to which I could manage and handle ambiguity and uncertainty. This really tied into my last learning experience, stretching out of my comfort zone. Getting back onto blender and making a github account, I stepped out of the easy stuff and started to work on the parts that were less in my comfort zone. This also included asking for help and working with others instead of playing it safe and working alone with my strengths.

Personal Growth

Saturday, May 16, 2020

Every project has a lot of moving parts, each step of my Capstone project has led to a growth in content knowledge. The best example of this is my process for creating my structural initiative. The goal I set for myself was to design a Net-zero set and have a VR experience available. My sophomore year I took a programming class and I was really interested because I never had room to take the honors class where you learned about the software to create your own virtual reality. Taking this endeavor on, at home during the quarantine, I have had the chance to really push my skills. Something I am really proud of from the new knowledge I have gained from Forward Films is improving my entrepreneurial self-efficacy, gaining confidence in my own ability to start up this new company. My entrepreneurial push came from helping my dad facilitate his new ideas when I was growing up. I admire my dad’s gift for innovative business ideas, but, I wanted to construct the face of my own ideas. I was tired of exerting most of my passion for my dad’s companies; I wanted to prove to myself that I could be capable of utilizing everything I learned to make my ideas a reality. This year, working towards building my idea into a company that I hope to someday make a reality has really given me that strength. Looking back the passion I have developed for this goal really accelerated the process. Something else this project has given me insight on is self-management. I've always had a busy life and a lot going on but I’m not a very organized person or have a very clear thought process. Though my scatterbrain thought mentality has worked up until this point, I realized I needed to set clear pillars and goals to really have a successful in Capstone. Planning and being able to structure tasks in order to achieve the goals of Forward Films has really helped me become an organized person. With all the struggles and new lessons I my perseverance for task grew.

Professionalism

Wednesday, January 15, 2020

Going through a progress that really pulls us to connect STEM and entrepreneurial skills to the real world implications, has initiated the importance of professionalism in my project. Growing up in a business dynamic, I have been taught to show consideration and respect for others demonstrates a commitment to professionalism. Making connections with members of my community and several organizations, I have demonstrated professionalism by keeping my word and proving my dedication to the common goal: sustainability. Furthermore exceeding the expectations of connections is demonstrating professionalism. I have really pushed myself to produce what I can do to create the best work
